Get Your Fish On
Aboard the 4 Monsters, we utilize several methods for fishing salmon, bottomfish, freshwater species, black cod, and ling cod. We often troll for salmon (Kings and Cohos) with the aid of downriggers but sometimes employ the technique of “Mooching,” which involves using a simple weight and a herring threaded upon a pair of hooks, then dropped to a desired depth and retrieved until a fish bites.
Halibut fishing involves anchoring in specific areas that harbor good numbers of flatfish. We use various baits, but most often, it’s salmon guts from our previous catches and herring. These guys really tug!
We fish as much or as little as you desire. Our local waters are often teeming with fish, so it doesn’t take long to acquire a nice amount of fillets to take home, leaving time for other activities within the same day.
All fish are expertly filleted, cut into meal-sized portions of your choosing, washed, vacuum-sealed in labeled bags denoting species, and promptly frozen. As you prepare for your flight, the crew will package your catch in wetlock boxes labeled for airline travel, which will be taken as checked baggage.
Crab & Shrimp
As we fish, paddle, and explore, our shrimp and crab pots are hard at work catching delicious Dungeness Crab, Tanner/Snow Crab, and Spotted Prawns! While the bounty makes for fantastic table fare, the process of preparing the pots for launch, selecting just the right bait, and choosing the perfect location is super fun and truly out of the ordinary for most of our guests! We urge you to incorporate a little of this activity into your custom charter with us!
Explore the Sites
Aboard the 4 Monsters, we have the ability to get off the main thoroughfare used by the day-boats and cruise ships. We access and explore pristine wilderness areas with rare to no traffic. Some of these areas are rarely visited, and exploring the bays, islets, and beaches is a real treat! Taking a short stroll in these places often yields a wealth of photographic experiences and sometimes a treasure to take home as a reminder of the special place.
We often visit several natural hot springs in the area, have beach fires in pure wilderness on proper evenings, and enjoy relaxing paddling through the many islands and coves. Additional options include kayaking, whale watching, bear watching, hiking, and exploring glaciers and waterfalls. The beauty of our area is that none of the excursions are ever the same!
